Reception and Kindergarten children at Dame Bradbury's were delighted to welcome residents from Manorcourt Homecare and spend time with them.

In the Early Years at Dame Bradbury's, children are still forming ideas about their place in the community, developing empathy and positive attitudes which will shape their identity as valuable citizens of the world. On the afternoon of Tuesday 19 March, residents from Manorcourt Homecare in Saffron Walden came to visit Kindergarten and Reception. Accompanied by carers, we were told how much they had been looking forward to the visit as for some it was a rare day out.

Two were retired school teachers who shared memories of teaching, and on leaving, one visitor told us it had given him “my daily dose of happiness”. Our pupils showed self-confidence in welcoming and encouraging them to join in with painting, creating dough shapes and mark making in sand. They had made and signed heart cards which when given brought smiles to faces! Seeing the positive impact the interactions made on both visitors and pupils, we plan to make the experience and a more regular event.
