The mathematics department has been busy recently with a number of activities.
On 7 November, 27 Year 11s took part in the Senior Maths Challenge competition, which is primarily aimed at sixth form students. Congratulations to Zoe C who achieved gold as well as the 4 silver and 10 bronze awards.
Also in early November every Senior School pupil sat the BEBRAS (Computational thinking and test of logic/problem solving) Challenge and we are pleased to say that a long list of pupils achieved a distinction or merit. Following these great results, a number of pupils have been invited to take the Oxford Computational Challenge in March.
On 5 December 30 Years 10 and 11 pupils attended the Maths Inspiration event in Cambridge, an interactive and fun maths event that proves very popular with our pupils. This term, we have welcomed "STIMULUS" mentors in to the department. These University of Cambridge undergraduates have been attending on a weekly basis to support in lesson and support sessions in both the Senior School and Sixth Form. This work has been taking place for a number of years and we very much hope to continue as we move forward. Additionally, some year 12 and 13 students continue to mentor students in the Senior School with their maths.
Lastly, we are very pleased to see a large number of students in all years attending lunchtime sessions for Maths enrichment or for extra consolidation and practice. Well done to all of those who have attended.
