Our first full week of remote learning has come to an end and although remote learning is no longer a novelty for our staff and pupils it certainly hasn’t become boring! Our staff have once again worked tirelessly to make sure that pupils working from home, as well as key worker children on-site, have been able to carry on with their timetabled lessons as normal. Let’s take a look at some of the great activities and learning that has taken place this week.
Madingley Kindergarten and Reception classes have thrown themselves into their new dinosaur topic. Our mini palaeontologists have been looking at the different types of dinosaurs and the environments they used to live in as well as making their own dinosaur skeleton.
Earlier in the week Dame Bradbury’s Reception class ventured out into nature to see how many 2D shapes they could find. They discovered that leaves, plant pots, fences and more had shapes in them!
The recent bad weather and flooding became a learning opportunity for the class on Friday as they headed out of their homes to see the effects that bad weather can cause to our surroundings.
Dame Bradbury’s started their busy week with a virtual assembly led by Mrs Graham where they were told about their new competition ‘A lockdown adventure’. They’ve been tasked with getting creative and taking a picture based on the above title.
Years 1 and 2 have been learning all about birds this week. To help expand their understanding the classes learnt how to draw them and made bird feeders to hang up around the site and in their back gardens so they were able to get a closer look!
Year 1 at Rosedale House had an exciting start to the week with their virtual visit from Doctor Locke as part of their ‘people who help us’ topic. Doctor Locke showed the class how she examines people by demonstrating on an injured Woody from Toy Story!
Year 2 key worker pupils had fun during their forest school session at the Senior School by completing team work activities such as plank walking across the playground by passing the planks to the person in front to lay down and walk across.
As part of their Zootropolis topic Year 4 have been exploring adaptations in animals. They learnt that red pandas have an extra thumb to help them grab bamboo and emperor penguins have a double layer of feathers!
Our Modern Languages department has been super busy this week. To help learn what household items are in Chinese, Year 8 went around their homes with sticky notes and stuck the translations to different items. This topic was continued later in the week when the class created animations of their bedrooms and narrated what items of furniture were called in Chinese.
Year 7 thought of a different way to help them learn Chinese characters by turning them into pictures and ideas.
The Sport department worked up a sweat this week with Mr Tillen leading a Pyramid HIIT workout with Year 7, a whole-body fitness circuit with Year 8 and Fitness challenge workout with Year 9.
This is only a small selection of this week’s remote learning, to keep updated with the latest news follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
