Inspired by Bernard Kops’ play Dreams of Anne Frank and taking extracts from Anne’s own diary, our Year 9 production explored the tragic story of the Frank family, interweaving it with other real life stories of WW2.
Members of the cast were involved from the outset, helping to research stories that offered different viewpoints and perspectives of the war and its effect on individuals and families across Europe. The piece contained choreography by Year 9 students, original music (some composed by Year 9 student Frank O and some by Year 12 student Sunny T) plus songs from the period, performed and recorded by cast members. Some scenes were filmed using a green screen and these were then projected onto the stage alongside real footage from the era, to provide a changing background to the live action on stage.
The final performance was filmed to create a thought-provoking, multi-layered, multi-media piece of highly visual theatre and we were extremely proud of the sensitivity with which our cast and crew approached this enormous topic. The final piece paid tribute and respect to the fragility and vulnerability of our world, and observed how the language of hate must always be challenged. They too, have experienced something of what it is like to feel isolated and restricted this past year, but they have also enjoyed the opportunity to be with their friends, explore creative freedom and consider our world from other perspectives.
Whilst the final film is still in the editing stages, director Mrs Foote has released the below trailer which gives a real flavour of the style of the piece and an insight into all the different techniques that were incorporated.
