In the last week of the Autumn term we finally performed our Year 13 extract of the Autumn term production of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics and book by Howard Ashman.
Showing amazing resilience and determination, the cast, crew and band managed to maintain their enthusiasm for the project throughout what was undoubtedly a particularly challenging term. They achieved a very polished and entertaining final performance, despite facing additional challenges presented by a somewhat disjointed rehearsal period.
Members of Year 13 were also very much involved through our backstage enrichment programme in the creation of the Audrey Two plant elements and working puppets that featured in all four versions of the production. Using problem-solving and design skills and experimenting with a variety of materials including Plastizote, Worbla, paper rope and Rosco scenic paints we worked together to create the vines, leaves, pods and functional head pieces of three different plant puppets.
Two Year 13 students were particularly involved behind the scenes, working during the summer holidays and in free periods throughout the Autumn term. Liberty and Rachel have been members of student tech clubs for a number of years: for this particular show they worked alongside our theatre technician Miss Cooper to help assemble the set and to set up and prepare the sound and lighting equipment for all four productions.
We are so incredibly proud of our students and of the work they have produced in what for many will be their final Stephen Perse Drama and Theatre production.
A film of the final performance has been shared with the relevant students and their parents. You can also see a selection of photos of the Year 13 production and the digital programme below.
