Year 12 students enjoyed meeting representatives from leading universities, employers and diverse alumni successfully pursuing exciting and unusual career paths, at a jam-packed Careers and University Day.
Our Sixth Form students had the opportunity to discuss degree choices and applications with admissions representatives from universities including Cambridge, Durham, Nottingham, Stirling, University of East Anglia (UEA) and Lancaster. Stephen Perse Sixth Form hosted over 30 organisations, ranging from world-class universities to high profile employers and charities, including Cambridge-based Costello Medical, Mills and Reeve Solicitors and The British Army.
Allison Curry, Head of Guidance and Careers at Stephen Perse Foundation said: “We would like to thank all the individuals and organisations who came to speak with and inspire our students today. Students were also extremely lucky to attend subject and career-specific talks from school alumni and other professionals, including actors, lawyers and engineers, which allowed them to learn about degree routes, work experience and everything in between for their post-18 choices.”
One of the Year 12 students said: “The event helped me to understand that the course is more important than the university, and the importance of open days and visiting a university before deciding to go there. In addition, there was valuable advice on writing personal statements, whilst the careers fair piqued my interest in battery technology and gave me valuable information on the structure of universities like Oxford. Finally, it gave me some information on the ranking of universities, and which rankings should be trusted.”
Through our diverse programme of talks and initiatives, including the Careers and University Day, the Stephen Perse Sixth Form aims to equip students with everything they need to successfully embark on higher education and career paths, including those in emerging fields such as technology and medicine. Students aged 11 – 18 benefit from a tailored programme of learning, which includes careers guidance, PSHE and enrichment programmes, researching courses, writing personal statements, practising for tests and interviews, and admissions talks from world-leading universities each year.
