Dear parents,
Though we begin the second half of the summer term against a backdrop of still empty school buildings, shuttered shops and quiet roads, our virtual teaching and learning platforms continue to buzz with activity and our Sixth Form community continues to provide a supportive environment in these challenging and unusual times. And there is now hope of a gradual return to normal life - albeit a new kind of normal.
We start this half term with a short period of study leave for our Year 12s followed by two weeks of end of year remote assessments. These assessments are an important opportunity for students to consolidate their learning and for teachers to provide targeted feedback so that students can continue to make progress in the second year of their A Level or IB studies. All we ask is that students do their best in these assessments and learn from the experience. Following the assessments, our usual (remote) academic timetable will resume and students will also be turning their attention once more to their UCAS and other higher education applications. Before we wind down for the summer break, end of year reports will also be issued.
Meanwhile, many of our Year 13s are busy engaging in a programme of MOOCs (online learning courses) and extension work, or making plans for university and life beyond the Sixth Form. It is a great shame that we have had to cancel our end of year leavers’ events this year, but we hope to be able to welcome our leavers back in the near future. On behalf of the “Class of 2020”, Madeleine S has kindly been liaising with her peers to produce a fantastic Stephen Perse Sixth Form leavers’ hoodie and we hope they wear them with pride!
We very much hope that all of our Year 13 leavers will continue to stay in touch with the Stephen Perse Foundation once they have completed their time with us, and also hope that they will one day come back and tell us about their university experiences and career paths. If they have not done so already, please could they make sure they have completed the Year 13 leavers’ form, so that we have their details and can keep in touch.
We will continue to keep you informed of our plans for partial reopening of the school sites over the coming weeks and very much hope to see you all soon!
Best wishes
Mr Pinkus
